Grace’s Nutrition Guide: Back to School NutritionSeptember 2026
Welcome to our back-to-school edition of Grace’ s Nutrition Guide.
With a crispness in the air, we are officially done with summer and getting back into routine. There is something about September that makes us want to develop new, healthy habits to be our best selves. In this month’s newsletter we will focus on tips to stay motivated and consistent with yours or your family’s nutrition goals so they last long-term.
Here are a few ways to make the transition easier:
Make breakfast easier, not perfect.
A nutritious breakfast doesn’t need to be elaborate. Think about having a few reliable options on hand that combine protein + fibre (ex: eggs and whole wheat toast). The goal isn’t a picture-perfect breakfast, it is finding something that works for you and/or your family on a busy morning.
Take the stress out of lunches
If packing lunches feels like a daily battle, keep it simple. Choose a few foods that are enjoyed by yourself or your child and aim for some variety over the course of the week. A lunch doesn’t have to look Pinterest-worthy to be nutritious. Leftovers, sandwiches, snack plates, wraps, or a combination of smaller foods can all work.
Think beyond the lunchbox
Back-to-school nutrition isn’t just about what’s packed for lunch. Kids, or you, may come home hungry after a long day, especially when they’re busy with sports and activities. Having a few easy snacks available can help bridge the gap between school/work and dinner. Try pairing foods together, like fruit with yogurt or cheese and crackers.
Create a little structure
Fall routines can make regular meals and snacks easier for everyone. You don't need a rigid schedule, but having some consistency around when meals and snacks happen can help support energy, concentration, and appetite throughout the day.
Give yourself some grace!
Healthy habits aren’t built from one “perfect” day of eating. They’re developed through small, repeatable choices over time. If your family’s routine looks a little different this fall, that’s okay. The goal is to find an approach to nutrition that is realistic, flexible, and sustainable for your and your family. It isn’t about following a rule book.
